How to Fix A Short Forehand

|
Have trouble winning your tennis matches because you keep hitting the ball into the net? If so, this article is for you. In this article, I will be discussing how to keep your forehand from going short and into the net, thus greatly improving your tennis game.
One possible problem is that you may be hitting the ball to late. If you make contact with the ball farther forward, your racquet will have opened up more, and you'll make contact higher on the tennis ball. This will cause the ball to take a dive into the net. If your forehand backswing is a large loop, you might also try shortening the loop.

Also, just like with hitting the ball long, try to start your swing lower. This will create more lift on the tennis ball and give it a higher clearance over the net, but the extra spin you gain will bring the ball down in the court. Additionally, if you already hit with a lot of top spin, try aiming for higher net clearance. Don’t worry about the ball going long, as the spin will bring it down into the tennis court.
Another possible solution is to rotate your grip towards the Eastern Grip. However, its not recommended to go farther than an Eastern Grip, ie. a Continental Grip is no good.
Another possible problem is that you may be trying to much to “roll” over the tennis ball. Trying to roll over the tennis ball causes you to turn your wrist in a way that does much more harm than good to your stroke. You create topspin by brushing a vertical racquet face up the back of the tennis ball, not by rolling over the top.
Hopefully these tips will help you improve your tennis game and stop hitting the ball into the net.
